1 package yellow cake mix
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
1 cup milk
1 can pumpkin
1/2 cup finely snipped dates
1/2 cup chopped dates

Topping:
2 cup cool whip-thawed
1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
1 tablespoon sorghum

Directions:
Directions:
Combine cake mix, baking soda, spices, eggs, pumpkin and milk. Blend at low speed then medium for 2 minutes. Fold in dates and nuts. Bake at 350º in 2 9 x 9 pans that are greased and floured.

To be served within a few hours: Spread topping between and on top of layer cake.
