Ingredients: |
Ingredients: 1 (101 oz.) can + 1 (28 oz.) can of cut green beans, drained 1.5 lb. bacon, fried and crumbled; save drippings (I usually cut up the bacon first before frying and like to use "thick" bacon) 1 large onion, diced 1½ tsp garlic powder pepper to taste
|
|
Directions: |
Directions:1. In a large skillet, fry cut up bacon until almost done but not too crispy. Add chopped onion when the bacon just starts to brown. Stir frequently. 2. Remove the bacon and onion from the skillet, leaving the bacon drippings in the skillet. Add pepper. Set aside. 3. To cook you have two choices: a. In a large cooking pot, combine all ingredients and gently stir; heat slowly on stove-top until hot and serve. b. In a 6 qt. (Or larger) add drained beans. Add skillet ingredients on top including the bacon drippings. Heat on low, 2-4 hours until ready to serve. Gently stir occasionally during the warming time. Serve and enjoy! |

Notes: I must admit, this is not your ordinary every-day green bean dish. This requested dish is one that I take to almost every Bowald family dinner. Sometimes, I must admit, that I increase the amount of bacon that I add. No one every complaines! This recipe is easily altered for smaller groups of dinner guests. (As is, yields about 15-20 servings)
