2 gal. cut cucumbers
2 c. salt
water
2 qts. vinegar
8 pts. sugar
handful of pickling spices (tied in a bag)
2 Tbsp. alum

Directions:
Dissolve salt in 1 gallon boiling water. Pour over cucumbers and let stand 7 days. Stir occasionally. On eighth day, drain and pour 1 gallon clear boiling water over the cucumbers. Let stand 24 hours. Drain and pour 1 gallon boiling water and 2 Tbsp. alum over them. Let stand 24 hours. Heat vinegar, sugar, and pickling spices. Drain water from cucumbers and pour pickling mixture over cucumbers each day; drain and repeat for 4 days. Can and seal them on the 4th day.
