"Plain fresh bread, its crust shatteringly crisp. Sweet cold butter. There is magic in the way they come together in your mouth to make a single perfect bite."--Ruth Reichl

Directions:
Brown pot roast. Place pickling spice in cheese cloth, place in pot with remaining ingredients for sauce. You will need to add water also. Simmer for the afternoon. Once the meat is tender take out of pan and cut into pieces and place back into pot removing cheese cloth with pickling spice.. You can either thicken it with and mixture of flour or corn starch mixed with water. At this point you can adjust the flavors. Good luck kids.

Mixing the noodles I use about 1 1/2 cups of flour per one egg adding about a 1/2 teaspoon of salt. Stir milk into this mixture until it is a little looser then bread dough. Bring a pot of salted water to a boil and cut the noodles from the edge of bowl into the boiling water. The noodles will float when done. Remove from water and place in serving bowl. You will need to do in small amount so there will be several batches to cook. Remember 1 1/2 cups of flour is not what you will be using but a guide of what will be needed per egg. You adjust according to how many people will be eating.

Personal Notes:
This recipe was handed down from Grandma Green. And like mom there are no measurements. We grew up with this dish and it was one of our favorites. It took awhile but I did finally master it and remember mom every time I make it. You could smell it cooking as soon as you got off the bus.
