3/4 cups shortening
1 1/2 cups sugar
2 eggs
1 tsp. vanilla
2 Tbsp. Burnt Sugar Syrup
1 cup milk
2 1/2 cup cake flour
2 tsp. baking powder
1/2 tsp. soda
1/4 tsp. salt

Directions:
Directions:
Burnt Sugar Syrup: One-half cup sugar in skillet and heat until melted and deep golden brown in color, stirring continually. Add 3/4 cup water and boil to thin syrup. Use sufficient amount to color the cake to your liking.

Cream shortening, sugar, eggs and vanilla until light and fluffy. Combine milk and burnt sugar syrup. Add alternatively with flour which is sifted with baking powder, soda and salt. Beat until smooth. Bake at 375º for about 25 minutes.
