Ingredients:
Ingredients:
2 cups Gold Medal flour
3 teaspoon Baking powder
1 teaspoon salt
¼ cup Shortening
¾ cup Milk

Directions:
Directions:
Preheat oven to 450 degrees. Mix dry ingredients into mixing bowl and stir thoroughly to blend. Cut shortening into flour mixture with pastry blender until mixture looks like meal. Make a "well" in mixture and add liquid all at once. Stir vigorously with fork just until mixture rounds up in a ball and no dry ingredients remain in bowl. Avoid over handling. Turn dough onto lightly floured cloth-covered board.

For ease in handling, roll the ball of dough around 3 or 4 times. Knead 20 to 25 times, working quickly. Roll dough or pat out with floured hand to ½ inch in thickness. Biscuits will double in size during baking. Cut biscuits close together with floured biscuit cutter. Push leftover dough lightly and roll out. Avoid working in more flour and do not knead. Use spatula to transfer biscuits. For crusty sides, place 1 inch apart on ungreased round layer pan. Bake 10 to 12 minutes. Makes about 16 biscuits.

To make shortcake - Follow recipe for Baking Powder Biscuits, except differences:

Add 2 Tablespoons sugar to dry ingredients and sift together in mixing bowl. Use 6 Tablespoons shortening (¼ cup plus 2 Tablespoons) instead of ¼ cup. Beat one egg, add milk to make ⅔ cup and use this as liquid
instead of milk only,
