½ cup brown sugar
½ cup chopped walnuts or pecans
2 Tablespoons flour
2 teaspoon cinnamon
2 Tablespoons melted butter
1½ sifted enriched flour
½ cup sugar
2 teaspoons baking powder
½ teaspoon salt
¼ cup shortening
1 beaten egg
½ cup milk

1. Preheat oven to 375º F.
2. Line muffin pan with paper bake cups or grease each muffin cup.
3. Combine brown sugar, nuts, flour cinnamon, and butter, set aside.
4. Sift dry ingredients into bowl; cut in ¼ cup shortening until mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
5. Combine milk and egg and add all at once to flour mixture. Stir just until moistened.
6. Spoon small amount of batter into each muffin cup (about ⅓ full);
7. Top with a layer of nut mixture (the set aside mix), then add another layer of batter, filling
pans ⅔ full.
8. Bake in moderate oven 375º F. for 20 minutes or until done.
