1 package dates (2 cups)
1 cup boiling water
1 egg
1 cup sugar
1¾ cup flour
1 teaspoon baking soda
⅛ teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon vanilla
1 cup nuts

Directions:
Directions:
1. Cut up dates, and combine in large bowl with soda, salt and nuts.
2. Pour 1 cup boiling water over date mixture and allow to soak for 15 minutes.
2. Preheat oven to 350º F.
3. Grease or spray loaf pan.
4. Beat egg slightly, add vanilla.
5. Sift in flour and sugar and stir until dry ingredients are moistened. (This is a very stiff mixture.)
6. Add to date mixture, mixing until well blended.
7. Pour into prepared loaf pan and bake for 55 minutes or until center tests done.
