1 lb. hamburger (add Italian sausage for more flavor)
1 green pepper
1 cup sliced fresh mushrooms or a 7 oz. can
1 medium onion, or 2 tbsp dried onions
1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
1/2 clove garlic or 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
1/4 teaspoon black pepper
2 cans tomato sauce, 8 oz. each (sub. 6 oz. can tomato paste)
1 can Italian or Petite Diced tomatoes, 16 oz.
16 oz. spaghetti
1 tablespoon vegetable oil/margarine
1 tablespoon parmesan cheese

Brown hamburger until cooked. Drain grease. Add finely chopped garlic, green pepper, onion and mushrooms with one can of tomato sauce. Sprinkle in all seasonings, stir together and simmer covered for 30 minutes on low heat. Add second can of tomato sauce (or tomato paste) and diced tomatoes and simmer an additional 30 minutes, uncovered, until the desired thickness is reached.
When second simmer is started, in a separate pot, boil 4 quarts of water with a pinch of salt and the vegetable oil/margarine. Gradually add spaghetti, breaking in half if desired, and return to a rapid boil. Cook uncovered for 10 minutes, or until a desired degree of tenderness is reached. Drain. Serve sauce over hot spaghetti. Sprinkle with Parmesan cheese.
