Ingredients:
Ingredients:
3 egg whites
⅛ tsp. cream of tartar
¾ c. sugar
⅛ tsp. salt
1 tsp. vanilla
1 c. mini chocolate chips
¼ c. chopped pecans or walnuts

Directions:
Directions:
In glass or metal mixing bowl (not plastic) beat egg whites with cream of tartar until soft peaks form.
Gradually add sugar, salt, and vanilla, beating until stiff peaks form and sugar is dissolved - about 5 - 8 minutes.
(Scrape sides of bowl occasionally with rubber spatula to be sure all sugar crystals are into the mixture.)
Fold in chocolate chips and nuts.

Drop by rounded teaspoonfuls onto greased cookie sheets. Bake at 300º for 30 minutes, or until lightly browned. Cool on baking sheets.

Instead of nuts, you can substitute ½ cup crushed peppermint sticks.

Personal Notes:
Personal Notes:
I find these tend to spread more than expected, so I drop smaller amounts than for regular drop cookies. And chilling the mixture after it is finished mixing seems to help them keep their shape.

They are a nice, light dessert for after a heavy meal.
