slice the bread and butter it

Occasionally on a Friday night dad would stop at an Italian deli on the way home and get an extra large stick of pepperoni. And when it was a good week he would also get some fresh baked Italian bread. For dinner he would cut off chunks of the pepperoni for each of us and we would have bread and butter. That was supper. We would eat on the front porch before he closed it in. All of us eating and talking and watching the world go by. One of the best memories of my childhood.
