2 c sifted flour
1 1/2 tsp. baking powder
3/4 tsp. salt
1 1/3 c sugar
1/2 c shortening or butter
1 tsp. baking soda
1/2 c sour milk (to make use 1/2 c milk and 1 T vinegar)
1 c mashed ripe bananas
2 eggs
1 tsp. vanilla


Directions:
Directions:
Preheat oven to 350º. Combine dry ingredients (except sugar). Mix shortening or butter, sugar, sour milk, mashed banana, eggs and vanilla. Stir in dry ingredients just until moistened. Pour into a loaf pan. Bake until tooth pick comes out clean (approx. 50 minutes to an hour).

Bananas didn't get ripe very often in our family but when they did (or mom hid them so they would) then mom would make this banana bread.
