Hot Water Gingerbread Cake Recipe

1 cup flour
1 tsp baking soda
tsp salt
1 tsp ginger
tsp cinnamon
1 egg
cup brown sugar
cup molasses
cup hot water
⅓ cup raisins (optional)
6-8 Tbsp melted shortening

Mix and sift flour, baking soda, salt, ginger and cinnamon together well.
Beat egg, sugar, molasses and hot water together.
Add the dry ingredients to the liquid ingredients and when well blended add raisins and melted shortening.
Turn into a well greased cake pan.
Bake at 350F for 40-45 minutes.
