4-6 tart apples, peeled and sliced thin
1/2 C sugar (or less)
1 tsp cinnamon
1/2 C butter
1/2 C chopped pecans or walnuts
1 C plus 3 T flour
one deep dish pie crust, optional

Directions:
Directions:
peel and slice apples. I like tart crisp apples like 20 ounce or cortlands. sprinkle with cinnamon and sugar. Heap high!
Place in deep dish or deep dish pie shell,
mix the butter and flour with a pastry blender until size of peas, add chopped nuts.
Press the crumb topping mix on top of apples.
Bake 350 degrees until golden brown.

I (Leslie) generally make two at once, using refrigerated crusts. If I've got someone willing to peel apples, I take advantage of it! Just add apples and proportionally increased sweetener and crust mix. YOu can freeze uncooked, and cook later.

this is a prize winner. If I make it for a church dinner, the workers set it aside for themselves!
