4 c. flour
1 t. soda
1 t. salt
1 c. butter
2 c. brown sugar
2 eggs beaten
1 T lemon juice
1 t. vanilla

Date Filling
1 1/4 c. dates chopped
1/2 c. water
1 T lemon juice
1/4 c. nuts chopped
1/2 c. sugar
1 t. vanilla

Directions:
Directions:
Sift flour with salt and soda. Cream sugar and butter. Add eggs. Add dry ingredients.

For date filling, cook dates, water, and sugar. Add vanilla and lemon juice. Cook over medium heat stirring constantly until thick (about 8 minutes). Add nuts and cool.

Divide dough and roll out on lightly floured surface or between waxed paper. Spread with half date filling and roll up jelly roll style. Wrap up with plastic wrap. Repeat with remaining dough and filling. Chill dough rolls overnight. Before baking, slice dough in 1/4 or 1/3 inch slices. Place on greased cookie sheets and bake 375 degrees for 10-12 minutes.
