1 c sugar
1/3 c shortening
1 egg, beaten
11/4 c flour
2 tbsp. cocoa
1/2 tsp salt
1/2 c sour milk(can add 1tbsp vinegar to milk to make sour)
1 tsp soda
1/2 c boiling water
1/2 tsp vanilla

Directions:
Directions:
Cream shortening and sugar. Add beaten egg. Sift all dry ingredients together except soda. Add soda to sour milk. Add boiling water and vanilla last. This makes a very thin batter, but cake turns out moist. Bake at 350F for 20 minutes or until toothpick comes out clean.
