2 sticks butter
3/4 c. sugar, plus some for topping
1 egg, separated
2 3/4 - 3 c. flour

Directions:
Directions:
Cream butter and sugar; add egg yolk. Add flour until it forms a ball. Pat into greased 9x13 pan. Brush with egg white; sprinkle with sugar. Bake 30-35 minutes at 325º, until golden. Cool, cut in squares. I usually add chopped walnuts after brushing egg white on and before sprinkling with sugar.

This is a recipe from a friend of mine from England. It had been in her family for a number of years. It is very similar to shortbread. It is very yummy! I have had this recipe for 55 years and use it very often.
