4 medium sweet onions
1/4 tsp Gravy Master
2 packets of Lipton Onion Soup Mix

Crusty Italian bread
Provolone, Gruyere, or imported Swiss Cheese
Salt and pepper, to taste

Directions:
Directions:
Peel and slice onions against the grain, ¼ inch wide
Place onions in 1½ quarts of boiling water
Add Gravy Master
Boil at medium heat for 45 minutes, until onions are translucent
Add dry soup mix, do not cover the pot
Simmer for 30 minutes

To serve:
Ladle a portion of soup into oven-proof serving crocks
Add a slice of bread to each bowl
Cover soup with cheeses (I use two slices of provolone with a slice of Swiss in between)
Broil 6" to 9" from heat until cheese melts and is browned

H.A. Winston was an iconic burger restaurant in Center City and Ardmore. I went there a lot when I went to Drexel and their French Onion Soup was so memorable. I found this recipe on the internet, so it's not my own, but it is delicious!
