1 pkg dry yeast
1/4 cup warm water
2-1/2 cups flour
1/2 tsp baking soda
1 tsp baking powder
1 tsp salt
1/3 cup sugar
1/2 cup shortening
1 cup buttermilk (1 cup milk & 1 T vinegar or lemon juice -- substitute for buttermilk)

Directions:
Directions:
Preheat oven to 400º.

Dissolve yeast in warm water and set aside.

Mix dry ingredients in order given, cutting in shortening like pie dough. Stir in buttermilk and water yeast mixture. Blend thoroughly. Dough is now ready to be refrigerated or made into biscuits.

Knead lightly on floured board. Roll out and cut biscuits and place in greased pan. Let biscuits rise slightly if they have been refrigerated.

Bake until lightly browned.
