½ c. shortening
4 squares unsweetened chocolate
2 c. flour
2 tsp. baking powder
½ tsp. salt
2 c. sugar
4 eggs
2 tsp. vanilla
powdered sugar for coating
quarter sized non-perils for decorating (optional)

Directions:
Directions:
Melt together shortening and chocolate.
Sift together flour, baking powder and salt.
Add sugar to chocolate mixture, stirring until smooth.
Add eggs singly, beating well after each.
Add vanilla and flour mixture. Blend thoroughly.
Chill dough overnight (or at least 3 hours).
Dip out rounded spoonfuls. roll into a ball and then roll in powdered sugar to coat.
Place 2 inches apart on a lightly greased baking sheet.
Bake at 375º for 10 minutes. Do not over bake. Cookies should be soft when taken from the oven.
If desired press one non-peril on top of each cookie in the center while the cookie is still warm.
