Laurie Gelschus

1 cup sugar
1 cup brown sugar
1 cup butter
1 tsp. vanilla
1 tsp mapleine
3 eggs
3 cups flour
1 tsp. soda
1 tsp. cream of tarter
tsp. salt
1 cup walnuts
1 cup dates

Cram butter and sugars until smooth. Add eggs vanilla and mapleine and blend well. In a separate bowl, whisk flour, soda, cream of tartar and salt. Add to sugar mixture. Stir in walnuts and dates.

Form into 2 rolls. Allow to chill overnight in refrigerator. Working with small amount of dough at a time, slice into think slices. Bake at 375 for few minutes. (If more than few minutes required for crisp cookie, increase temperature to 400)

If a softer cookie is preferred, can be cooked immediately by dropping dough by spoonful on parchment paper lined pan. Bake at 375 for 6-8 minutes or until browned.
