4 slices white bread dried and coarsely broken
1/3 cup butter, melted
1 lb can tomatoes, chopped and undrained
6 tbsp light brown sugar
1 tsp salt
several leaves fresh or 1/4 tsp dried basil (chop leaves fine pieces)

Directions:
Directions:
In a 9 inch plate pour the butter over the bread, stirring to coat. Heat to boiling the tomatoes, sugar, salt, and basil; stir into the buttered bread. Press down the bread so it is submerged by the tomato mixture. Bake in a preheated oven 425º oven until browned around the edges. (about 25 minutes) Serve hot.
