1 T. shortening
3/4 c. sugar
1/2 c. milk
1 tsp. vanilla
1 c. flour
1 tsp. baking powder
1/2 tsp. salt
1 1/2 T cocoa

Topping:
1/4 c. cocoa
1/2 c. white sugar
1/2 c. brown sugar
1/2 c. chopped nuts
1 1/4 c. boiling water

Directions:
Directions:
1. Cream sugar and shortening.
2. Add milk and vanilla.
3. Sift flour, baking powder, salt, cocoa into mixture.
4. Pour into greased 8-inch square cake pan.

Topping
1. Combine cocoa and both sugars.
2. Spread chopped nuts over batter and cover with above cocoa-sugar mixture.
3. Pour boiling water over topping and batter.
4. Bake at 350º F for 35 minutes.
5. When cool, cut into squares and serve topped with whipped cream.
