Marion Ellinger Special Recipes Book #1

cup soft shortening
cup sugar
1 egg
cup molasses
cup cold water
2 cups flour
tsp. soda
tsp. salt
1 tsp. ginger
tsp. nutmeg
tsp. cloves
tsp. cinnamon

Mix shortening and sugar, eggs, molasses well. Stir in water. Sift dry ingredients and stir in. Chill.

Bake at 400 F. for 7-8 minutes.

Frost while slightly warm with Vanilla or Cream Cheese Frosting.
