Notes: The first meal I made for my husband when we were dating ended with this cake, it had some benign name like triple chocolate cake or something and I got it from a cookbook a friend gave me when I graduated college. It quick became the easy dish I would make for meals with friends. One friend liked it so much that she took it to her bible study and it was there that it got named "Marriage Cake" by one of the more mature gentlemen attending the study. He told the young men who were loading up their plates, "Listen up boys, the gal who made this cake is the one you want to marry!" My friend indeed married one of the boys, and my hubby and I have been married for 25+ years.
