1½ pounds ground beef (I use 90/10)
1 green pepper, seeded and chopped
1 medium jalapeno pepper, seeded and finely chopped
2 stalks celery, chopped (optional)
1 medium onion, chopped
1 can black beans, rinsed and drained
1 can chili beans (do not drain)
2 cans diced tomatoes -- garlic and onion, fire roasted, or chili style
2-3 T. chili powder
salt & pepper to taste
Tabasco sauce (optional)

Brown meat in a large skillet on medium heat. Drain off fat. Add peppers, celery, and onions. Cook till tender. Add beans and tomatoes. Simmer about 20 minutes to blend flavors. Then stir in chili powder , salt and pepper to taste. Simmer at least an additional 30 minutes. I like to add a splash of Tabasco sauce too, depending on how hot you like your chili.

I made some changes to my mother's (Betty Montani's) chili to make it my own. My kids love it! Even their friends ask me to make it for them! This recipe can easily be doubled. Great for a super bowl party or a pot luck.
