Grandma Astrid Elvine

1 cup sugar
1 cup shortening (or butter)
1 cup raisins (cook in water)
5 Tbsp raisin water
1 tsp baking soda
2 eggs
2 cups flour
1/2 tsp salt
1 heaping tsp cinnamon
1/2 tsp nutmeg
1/4 tsp ground cloves
2 cups oatmeal

Cream together sugar and shortening. Cook raisins in water. (I think you need to heat through so raisins are soft and plump). After raisins are plump, take 5 Tbsp of the raisin water and add 1 tsp baking soda. Drain the raisins. Add 2 eggs, baking soda raisin water to sugar and shortening mixture. Mix well. Add flour, salt, cinnamon, nutmeg, and cloves. Mix well. Add 2 cups oatmeal and drained raisins. Mix till well blended.

Drop by spoonfuls on cookie sheet. Bake in hot oven (350 degrees) for 12-15 minutes.
