cup softened butter
cup sugar
1 egg
1 cup molasses
2 cup flour
1 tsp soda
1 tsp cinnamon
1 tsp ginger
tsp allspice
tsp nutmeg
1-1 cup water
tps salt
⅔ cup brown sugar (packed)
Whipped cream (optional)

In a large bowl cream butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Add egg; beat well. Beat in molasses. Combine flour, soda, spices and salt; add to creamed mixture (alternately) with water, beating well after each addition.

Transfer to an ungreased 9 x 13 baking pan; sprinkle with brown sugar. In microwave heat water and butter until melted and pour over batter. Bake at 350 35-40 minutes or until toothpick inserted comes out clean. Serve warm. (Garnish with whipped cream and cinnamon if desired.)
