Ingredients:  
1 cup sugar
4 T flour or (1/2 cup heaping)
1/4 t salt
2 cups milk
3 egg yolks
1/2 cup cocoa or (little less)
2 T butter
1 T vanilla

Directions:
Directions:
Mix and sift dry ingredients. In skillet on stove, put beaten eggs and milk, when mixture gets hot enough then stir in dry ingredients. Cook on low until thick (stirring constantly). Add vanilla and butter and stir in until butter melts then pour into a cooked pie shell. You can either make a meringue for topping or top with cool whip.

Mom always topped her pies with meringue but I never liked meringue so I would scrape it off my slice so I began topping Mom's recipe with cool whip.
