For 9x14 Pyrex baking dish

4 or 5 ripe bananas
1 large pkg. NILLA vanilla wafers
2 large or 1 large and 1 small pkgs of Jello vanilla pudding mix. DO NOT USE INSTANT
Milk as required on pudding pkgs
4 or 5 egg yollks.Reserve whites for meringue
1/3 C.sugar
2 T.butter
1 tsp.vanilla

Mix all ingredients except egg whites and vanilla together and cook, stirring constantly to prevent burning, until thickened. Burblering
Stir in vanilla.
Have ready the Pyrex dish lined bottom and sides with vanilla wafers covered with layer of sliced bananas
Pour 1/2 of pudding mix over all, spreading evenly
repeat with a layer of wafers, bananas and pudding.
Make meringue: have egg whites at room temp. Beat until frothy and slowly add approx 1/2 C, sugar (taste for sweetness) beat until soft peaks form then spread over pudding,sealing at edges and taking care to not have too many peaks that will burn.
Place in 450º oven on center shelf and watch carefully until meringue browns. About 5 to7 mins.
Remove, cool and enjoy!
