1 + 1/2 cups sifted flour
1 teaspoon baking soda
1 teaspoon salt
1 cup shortening
3/4 cup white sugar
3/4 cup brown sugar
2 eggs, unbeaten
1 teaspoon hot water
1/2-1 cup chopped nuts (if desired)
1 pkg. chocolate chips
2 cups oatmeal
1 teaspoon vanilla

1. Preheat oven to 350º F.
2. Grease cookie sheets.
3. Sift flour and measure. Add soda and salt and sift again.
4. In bowl, cream shortening until fluffy; add sugars; cream well.
5. To mixture, beat in eggs, and add hot water.
6. Stir in sifted ingredients.
7. Add nuts, chocolate chips, and oatmeal. Mix well.86. Add vanilla.
8. Drop by spoonfuls on greased cookie sheet.
9. Bake at 350º F. for 10-12 minutes.
