Dough

Ingredients:
Ingredients:
2 c sifted flour
1/4 tsp salt
3 eggs
1/2 tbs vegetable oil

Directions:
Directions:
1. This recipe is really quite free form; mix the above ingredients until a doughy ball forms; you have to feel that it is right. The consistency has to be such that it is "rollable"
2. Form the dough into small balls, very small balls and place on a lightly floured tray
3. Heat vegetable or canola oil in a deeper pan; ensure that the oil is hot enough by dropping in one ball and it should bubble around the ball; there should be 1-2 inches of oil in the pot
4. Using a slotted spoon, lower in spoonfuls of balls basically resulting in one layer of balls frying
5. Be careful; if it gets too hot you could have a disaster and the oil could quickly bubble up
6. Remove with slotted spoon once the balls are golden brown
7. Place on a tray lined with paper towels so that the oil is absorbed
8. Repeat until all balls are done

Topping

Ingredients:
Ingredients:
1 c honey
1/4 c sugar
1 lb of chopped nuts, preferably walnuts or hazelnuts

Directions:
Directions:
1. Heat in a saucepan the sugar and honey over a low flame until all of the sugar is dissolved
2. Toss the balls with the chopped nuts and the honey mixture
3. Garnish with colored sugars

Personal Notes:
Personal Notes:
My grandmother would form the balls into a wreath. I tried; very difficult to do. You can center a glass on a tray, being sure to spray the glass with PAM. Then, pile the honey coated balls around the glass to form a wreath. Remove the glass and voila!
