Mom's Peanut Butter Cookies


Ingredients:

1/2 cup peanut butter
1/2 cup butter
1/2 cup white sugar
1/2 cup brown sugar
1 egg
1/2 tsp vanilla
1/2 tsp salt
1/2 tsp baking soda
1 cup white flour

Directions:
Directions:
Cream butters, beat in sugar, add other ingredients and more flour if needed to make mixture stiff enough for drop cookies.
Arrange by spoonfuls on unbuttered cookie sheet, press flat with a floured spoon and mark with a floured fork (in an X).
Bake at 350º for 12 to 13 minutes.
 

Grandma Rayome's Molasses Cookies


Ingredients:

1 cup sugar
1 cup molasses
1 cup butter
1 cup buttermilk
1 egg
1 tsp baking soda
1/2 tsp salt
4 cups flour (or a bit more)
You can vary these to taste:
1/2 tsp pumpkin pie spice
1/2 tsp ginger

Directions:

Combine wet ingredients, then add the dry ingredients.
Dough should be nice and soft. Add more flour if needed to achieve this.

Bake at 350º 12 - 13 minutes or until they look done!

Mom's first cookbook was the 1964 "the NEW Fannie Farmer Boston Cooking School COOK BOOK". She noted all of the recipes she particularly liked. As a kid, I ate many, many dozen of these absolutely delicious cookies! Grandma Rayome's Molasses Cookies were hand written in the book but the Peanut Butter Cookies were Fanny's, with Mom's notation of "Good!".
