8 whole cloves
8 whole peppercorns
1 bay leaf
2 (2 lb) cans tomatoes
½ onion, chopped
Salt to taste
¾ cup brown sugar
3-4 slices of white bread, torn into bite size pieces
2 T butter

Directions:
Directions:
Place cloves, peppercorns and bay leaf in cheesecloth, pulled together to form a bag. Cook untrained tomatoes, onions and cheesecloth for 30 minutes on simmer. Add salt to taste. Pour tomato mixture into a 2 qt casserole, discarding cheesecloth bag. Add brown sugar and bread pieces; mix well. Dot top with butter. Bake at 325 F for 30 minutes.
