4 cups diced cooking apples
2 cups sugar
1 to 1 1/2 cups chopped pecans

3 cups flour
1/2 tsp. nutmeg
1/2 tsp. salt
2 teas. baking soda
2 small beaten eggs
3/4 cup vegetable oil
1 teas. vanilla
1/2 tsp. salt

Sauce
1 cup sugar
1 cup buttermilk
1 teas. baking soda
2 tbsp. Karo syrup
1 stick oleo (butter)
1 teas. vanilla

Directions:
Directions:
Mix apples,sugar,pecans, together. Let stand in bowl 1 hour.

In other bowl combine flour,nutmeg,cinnamon,salt,baking soda, vegetable oil, eggs and vanilla.

Mix apple mixture with other ingredients with wooden spoon. Place in greased,floured 10" tube pan. Bake 1 hour and 15 minute at 350º oven. While hot, put holes in cake with 2 prong fork.Pour on sauce.(directions for sauce are not included...have to wing it).

Mom's dear friend Maxine Itle contriubuted this recipe to my bridal shower cookbook. Maxine passed away in thelast year after livingat Garvey Manor She was a member of the "42 Club" -girls who had graduated in 1942 and played cards with mom, Janie, and Marie Kelly for many years. She attended Mom's last birthday party at The Chateau in 2016.
