1/2 c. shortening
1/2 c. butter
3 c. flour
1 c. sugar
1 egg
2 tbsp. milk
1 tsp. vanilla
1/2 tsp. baking soda
1/4 tsp. salt
3/4 tsp. peppermint extract
red or green food colouring

Directions:
Directions:
Cream shortening and butter. Add half the flour and sugar, egg, milk, vanilla, baking soda and salt and beat well. Add remaining flour and mix.

Divide dough in half and add peppermint and colouring to one half.

Roll each half between sheets of wax paper into a 12" x 11" rectangle. Remove top sheets of wax paper. Invert plain dough on top of coloured dough and remove top sheet of paper. From long side, roll up dough removing bottom sheet of wax paper as you roll.

Cut roll in half and refrigerate for 4 to 24 hours.

Slice into cookies and bake at 375ºF for 8 - 10 minutes.
