Gingerbread:
2 cups sifted flour
2 tsp baking powder
1/4 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp salt
1 & 1/2 tsp ginger. Sift with the flour

1/2 cup softened butter
1/2 cup sugar
1 egg
3/4 cup light molasses
2/3 cup boiling water
Lemon sauce
1/4 cup sugar
1 Tbsp cirb starch
1 cup water
2-3 Tbsp butter
1/8 tsp salt
1 & 1/2 Tbsp lemon or lime juice
1/2 tsp lemon peel, grated

Directions:
Preheat oven to 350 .
Grease and flour a 9x9 " pan. Put sifted ingredients in large mixer bowl. Add all other ingredients to bowl and mix at low speed for one minute . Scrape the sides of bowl and beater.
Pour batter into the pan. Bake 40-45 minutes. Serve warm with Lemon Sauce.
Lemon Sauce
In heavy saucepan combine sugar, cornstarch and water. Mix well over medium heat, stirring constantly until thickened and smooth.
Remove from heat, and stir in butter, lemon peel, juice and salt.
Serve warm over gingerbread.
