1 cup shortening
2 cups dates or raisins
2 1/2 cups water
Boil 20 minutes and set aside to cool.

Sift together:
4 cups flour
2 cups sugar
1 tsp. salt
2 tsp. cinnamon
1 tsp. cloves
2 tsp. soda

Directions:
Add 2 beaten eggs to cooked mixture.
Add sifted dry ingredients and mix well.
Add 1 cup chopped nuts and spread on large jelly roll pan (11x17) or 2 small cookie sheets.
Bake at 350º for 15-20 minutes.
