2 cans yams or sweet potatoes - drain
2 cans fried apples (Lucks Brand) - drain
1 cup brown sugar
1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
1/8 teaspoon cloves 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
1/4 cup melted butter
1/2 cup orange juice - fresh orange
1 teaspoon grated orange rind
1/2 chopped pecans (optional)
Directions:

Preheat oven to 350 º
Spray a 9x9 pan casserole dish with cooking spray (Pam)
Combine apples and yams (or sweet potatoes).
Mix remaining ingredients and spoon over casserole.

Bake in shallow casserole dish for 40-45 minutes.
Spoon syrup over casserole about every 15 minutes while baking.
Sprinkle with shopped pecans last 15 minutes of baking time.

I began baking this dish many years ago for my Grandpa John WilliamThomason. I knew that he loved baked apples and sweet potatoes. I ran across this recipe and started making it for him especially for our Thomason family dinners.
