Cake Batter:
3 Tbsp. Shortening or Butter (room temperature)
1 C - Flour (not self rising)
1/2 C - Milk
1/4 tsp-Salt
1/2 C - Chopped Pecans
3/4 C- Sugar
1 1/2 tsp - Baking Powder
4 Tbsp- Cocoa Powder


Topping:
1/4 C -Cocoa
1/4 tsp- Salt
1 C - Brown Sugar
1 1/4 C - Boiling Water

For Batter:
1.Cream shortening/butter and sugar together. 2. Sift together flour, baking powder, cocoa, and salt. add: this to creamed shortening and sugar mixture, alternating with the milk until blended well.3. Add chopped pecans and pour batter into 8 " square pan.
Topping:1.Blend cocoa with salt and brown sugar. Sprinkle over cake batter.
2. Slowly pour boiling water all over batter. DO NOT STIR...3. Bake at 375 degrees for about 30 minutes (check it) (cake will rise to the top and be firm, chocolate sauce will be gooy on bottom) Let sit 15 minutes.Serve warm. Scoop out and turn up-side down on the dish. Top with Ice Cream.

My mother always doubled this recipe and baked it in a 9" X 13 " pan. It would serve about 20 people. If you like chocolate this is the ticket. Very Rich!
