6 large apples
3/4 c. brown sugar
1/4 tsp. salt
4 tbsp. butter
3/4 tsp. cinnamon
3/4 tsp nutmeg
1 tsp. grated lemon rind

1 recipe plain pastry

Directions:
Directions:
Preheat oven at 400º

Peel and core apples.
Combine next 6 ingredients.
Roll pastry 1/8" thick and cut into squares to fit apple. Place apples on top of squares and fill each apple cavity with the sugar mixture.
Bring corners of pastry together at top of apples and pinch together.

Place on a greased cookie sheet and bake for 30 minutes or until apples are tender.

Serve with Vanilla Sauce
 

Vanilla Sauce


Ingredients:

1/2 C sugar
1 C boiling water
1 tbsp. corn starch


2 tbsp. butter
1 tsp vanilla
pinch of salt
pinch of nutmeg

Directions:

Mix in a small sauce pan
1/2C sugar
1 tbsp. cornstarch
add, stirring constantly
1 C boiling water
Boil 5 minutes, remove from heat

Stir in

2 tbsp. butter
1 tsp. vanilla
pinch of nutmeg
pinch of salt
