1 pkg dry yeast
1 c warm water (110° - 115°)
1/2 c sugar
1/2 c shortening
1 egg
1/2 tsp salt
4 to 4 1/2 c flour, divided
6 Tbsp melted butter or margarine

Directions:
Directions:
In large mixer bowl, dissolve yeast in warm water. Add egg, sugar, shortening, salt and 1 cup of flour. Beat until smooth. Stir in enough remaining flour to form a soft dough. Knead until smooth and elastic, about 6-8 minutes. Place in greased bowl, turning to grease top. Let rise until double, about 1 hour. Punch dough down. Shape into 1 1/2" balls. Dip the balls in butter and arrange evenly in greased 9" fluted tube pan.
Cover and let rise in warm place until doubled, about 45 minutes. Bake at 350° for 30 to 35 minutes or until golden brown. Cool 5 minutes before inverting.
