Cake:
2c flour
1 stick butter
1/2c shortening
1/2c buttermilk
1t baking soda
2c sugar
1c water
3 1/2cT cocoa
2 eggs
1t vanilla

Icing:
1 stick butter
1/3c milk
3 1/2T cocoa
1 box powdered sugar
1t vanilla
1c chopped pecans

Cake:
In a large bowl mix flour and sugar. Bring to a boil butter, water, shortening and cocoa. Mix these together stirring well. Add to batter buttermilk mixed with soda, then add eggs and vanilla

Pour in a 13x9 greased and floured dish or pan
Bake at 400º for 20 minutes

Icing:
Bring to a boil butter, cocoa and milk. Add sugar, nuts and vanilla. Stir well.

Pour over hot or cold cake.

I sometimes make a double batch of icing
