1 package active dry yeast
1/2 cup warm water
1/2 cup lukewarm milk (scalded then cooled)
1/3 cup sugar
1/3 cup shortening, or margarine or butter, softened
1 tsp salt
1 egg
3 1/2 to 4 cups all purpose flour

Filling:
Butter
White Sugar
Cinnamon

Caramel:
2 cup brown sugar
1/2 cup Karo syrup

1. Dissolve yeast in warm water in a large bowl. Stir in milk, sugar, shortening, salt, egg, and 2 cups of the flour. Beat until smooth. Mix in enough remaining flour to make the dough easy to handle.

2. Turn dough onto lightly floured surface; knead until smooth and elastic, about 5 minutes. Place in greased bowl; turn greased side up. Cover; let rise in warm place until double, about 1 1/2 hours.

3. Punch down dough. Roll out dough to approximately 1/2" thick (a 15x9 rectangle). Liberally brush melted butter over the dough then sprinkle a lot of cinnamon and white sugar on top. Roll dough tightly into log, pinching at the ends to seal.

4. In the bottom of a 9x13" pan, put ingredients for caramel sauce. Cut the log into approximately 1/2" circles, and put in the pan.

5. Bake at 375ºF for 25-30 minutes, or until golden brown. Lay out a piece of parchment paper, and flip the pan on top of it so the caramel is on top of the rolls.
