cup white sugar 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
cup butter 1 teaspoon ground ginger
teaspoon ground cloves teaspoon salt
1 cup hot water 1 egg
1 cup molasses 2 cups all purpose flour
1 teaspoon baking soda

Directions:
Directions:
1) Preheat oven 350 degrees. Grease and flour a 9inch square pan.

2) In a large bowl, cream together the butter and sugar. Beat in the egg and mix in the molasses.

3) In a bowl sift together the flour, baking soda, salt, cinnamon, ginger, and cloves. Blend into the creamed mixer. Stir in the hot water. Pour into the prepared pan.

4) Bake for 1 hour, until a knife inserted in the center comes out clean. Allow to cool in the pan before serving.

To garnish use powdered sugar or lemon curd
