1/2 cup butter
6 medium sweet onions, sliced
1 10-oz can cream of chicken soup
1 cup milk
Salt and pepper to taste
3/4 lb grated Swiss cheese
French bread slices to cover, with melted butter

Directions:
Directions:
Melt 1/2 cup butter and saute onions until tender. Transfer onions to buttered 9x13 inch casserole. Combine soup, milk, salt and pepper, and pour over onions. Sprinkle cheese over top.

Dip bread slices in melted butter - one side only. Arrange butter side up over onion mixture to cover. Bake at 350º for 30-35 minutes or until hot and bubbly.
