2/3 c. dry bread crumbs
1 c. milk
2 beaten eggs
1/4 c. onion, grated or chopped
1 tsp. salt
1/2 tsp. sage
dash of pepper
1 1/2 lb. ground beef (medium)

Sauce:
3 T. brown sugar
1/4 c. catsup (or ketchup)
1/4 tsp. nutmeg
1 tsp. dry mustard

Directions:
Directions:
1. In large bowl, soak bread crumbs in milk.
2. Add ground beef, beaten eggs, onion, salt, sage, and pepper and mix thoroughly.
3. Form into a loaf and put in loaf pan or casserole dish.
4. Prepare sauce and spread over top of meat loaf.
5. Bake at 350º F for 1 hour or until a knife or toothpick (long!) comes out clean.
6. Let set 5 minutes before slicing.

I still use this recipe today, but will sometime add carrots, mushrooms or other vegetables to the mix.
