1 egg, slightly beaten
2 teaspoons salt
3/4 cup water or milk (I use milk)
1 cup soft bread crumbs ( I crumble stale bread or crusts)
2 tablespoons minced onion or dried onion soup mix
2 pounds lean ground beef
4 strips bacon, if the meat is lean

Directions:
Directions:
Mix all ingredients together (except the bacon). Place into a loaf pan. Over the top lay the bacon.

Bake 1 hour at 350º. Drain grease from loaf pan. Serve hot with tomato sauce or plain.

To shorten baking time, bake in 3" muffin tins for 20 minutes at 400º.

This recipe came from the first cookbook I ever owned and this was the first recipe I tried. The book is falling apart, the covers hanging by a thread, but I won't give it up.
