1 cup raw grated carrots
1 cup raw grated potatoes
1 tsp soda
1 cup brown sugar or white sugar
1 cup flour
1 cup raisins
1 tsp cinnamon
1/4 tsp nutmeg
1/4 tsp allspice
1/4 tsp salt
4 Tbsp melted shortening

1 cup nuts, chopped if desired

Directions:
Directions:
Steam all of this together in a double boiler pan or place mixture in a glass qt bottle or tin can and place in sauce pan with water half way up container. Make sure it does not boil dry.

Vanilla Sauce:
Mix 1 Tbsp cornstarch 1/2 cup sugar speck of salt
Add:
1 cup boiling water and 1/2 stick of butter
Cook until thick and then add 1 tsp vanilla

I have started steaming this in my insta pot. I use the cake setting. Turns out great much faster
