3 cups sugar
1 1 /2 cups shortening
6 eggs
1 qt, applesauce 2 tsp baking soda
about 6 cups flour
3 tsp ea nutmeg, cinnamon, cloves
1 pkg chocolate chips

raisins can be substituted for chocolate chips if desired if using raisins,
boiling them first will keep the cookies moist

Directions:

Mix sugar, shortening,& eggs until creamy.
Add soda to applesauce in a separate bowl.
Stir & add to sugar mixture, mix
Add spices and flour by the cup full mixing after each cup. Mixture should be thick, but not "dough" like. Stir chocolate chips in by hand. Drop by tablespoonful on a greased cookie sheet and bake at 350 º - 375º Depending on your oven until golden brown 12 - 15 minutes.
